Question about Ausralorps

I only have a couple Australorps and they are sweethearts. Not the least bit bossy with the other hens. I like them enough that I'm considering keeping one of my roosters and raising more next spring.

My Aussies are 6 weeks old and I have noticed so far that they stay away from me the most when I am in the pen. But they seem to be more alert and aware of whats going on than the GLW, Sussex, Wellies, and RIR. They all seem very sweet and gentle but they also seem like the smarter birds and dont really want the companionship of anyone but each other.

I have 16 and they seem to be the only chicken that I can free-range with my Red Bourben Turkeys. All other chickens Ive tried get beat up by the turkeys. 3 of the Australorps seem to like to be handled.
