Question about blue eggs

I know that blue eggs can be laid by Araucana hens, and by Ameraucana hens, and by EasterEgg hens. I understand that EasterEgg hens are mixed-breed "mutt" hens and that they therefore can also lay eggs that are pink, or green, or brown, cream, or white. My question is, do Araucana hens or Ameraucana hens EVER produce eggs that are not blue?

Yes, they can. I purchased Ameraucana eggs that were advertised as blue, and several of them were green. I tossed them.

The answer is yes. Some araucanas have stone colored eggs, teal, brown, yellow and various shades of green to blue green. I have a blue ameraucana pullet that lays a cream colored egg.

If it doesn't lay a blue or green egg, it is a cross that did not inherit the blue egg gene from either parent, and does not conform to breed standards.

If it lays a green egg, it has the blue egg gene, but also has brown egg genes that it inherited from at least one parent, and is therefore a cross, and does not conform to breed standards.

Ameraucanas and araucanas lay blue eggs--the shade/tint of blue can vary, but it is definitely blue, not green.

yes and actually the majority of the ones I have bought from many BYC members were green to me not blue. I have yet to get real blue eggs from anyone for the most part. Even from the well known Araucana breeders. It s always disapointing, but I guess everyone's term of blue seems different.

It doesn't match the standard; ameraucana breeders (I am not one) are VERY picky about the standard. I would say it is a pet quality bird or an Easter Egger.

I breed silkies. Not all of them conform to the standard--pet quality. Silkie breeders tend to be picky about varieties (some are adamantly opposed to working on new varieties, others such as myself enjoy the challenge), but even the best of breeders working on recognised varieties do not hatch all show quality birds.

I have a cute little silkie in my layer flock who mostly meets the standard, but her feathering is short and tight, and her feet are completely featherless. Cute, sweet little bird, but she'll never be in my breeding pens.

In my opinion, egg color in Araucanas is a major problem (to me anyway, some people may like the varied egg colors).

When my family raised Araucanas back in the '70's, egg color (in general) was *much* better than it is today. There seem to be a lot of birds producing dirty greenish eggs. This seems to have started happening when blood from brown egglayers was bred in.

When we raised the birds many years ago, ALL of ours laid definitively blue eggs (no green, pink, brown, etc...) Blue and only blue. Of course, that is what *my* experience was with *our* birds. YMMV.

and even if they were not blue (somehow I believe you though) if the chicks are as cool as Alabaster i wont care what color they lay

Did I mention how I adore him

but in reality so far I have yet to get a bluer egg than my EE lays. I did hatch from her and Alabaster though so I am excited to see if its a pullet and what color it will lay.

but this color is what I dream of. I have no idea why I am so obsessed with it but blue is my favorite color and I just go bonkers for blue eggs
