Question about carton hatching

Mags, I think you should be fine laying them on thier side. Lots and lots of people use auto turners that hold the egg in an upright position, and at 18 days they take the egg out and put it in the hatcher on it's side.

When you use the carton method, do you cut the bottoms out of the cartons? Which type of carton is better the paper/pulp or styrofoam?

Paper because it breathes bettter.
Some people cut the bottoms out, but it is isn't required.

what about having the eggs in a bator on their sides first and then putting them in the hatcher would it be better to keep them on their sides or put them in a carton pointy side down?

I am not sure about that, mine were in a turner and therefore already in the upright position. My hatch was better using this method I must say.

I'm still confused after reading this post on what to do. I have 18 eggs that are in an egg turner right now (this is my first try!!), on day 16. I snagged an extra LG the other day at the John Deere store on sale for half off

so I have that set up for the hatcher. On day 19, do I just lay them on their sides or is it better to stand them upright in an egg carton since they are already in that position?

I'm in the Hovabator 1588 w/ auto egg turner and I'm changing to cartons on day 18.
