Question about cedar and quail

I was wondering if there is any problem with putting cedar branches (NOT SHAVINGS) into a bobwhite pen for cover? Also will cedar shavings for nest boxes kill the birds? Two different questions Niether has ever hurt my ducks or pheasnts BTW.

I wouldn't put them in nest boxes. Branches will be fine if the cage is ventilated good...

Cedar Shavings Give Off Fumes That Are Toxic To Quail... Toxicity Is A "load Thing" ... Basically You Have To Get Enough Of The Toxic Substance Absorbed In You To Actually Kill You Or Be "lethal Dose' Levels... Thats Pretty Easy When You're The Size Of A Bumble Bee And Surrounded By It... Readers Digest Version= Quail + Cedar = Much Bad Juju

Add Confined Space Such As A Warm Brooder To Help Give Off Even More Fumes And Keep Them Nicely In The Area Where Jr Is And Bad Things Tend To Happen...

Might Try Aspen Shavings Instead??? And As Far As Adults Outside In An Aviary With Branches For Cover/ Perch On/ Play In? It Doesnt Seem To Be Problematic

BTW YOUR OBSERVATIONS ABOUT DUCKS AND PHEASANTS NOT BEING AFFECTED BY IT... THEY DONT SEEM TO. NOW WHETHER IT IS TOXIC AND JUST NOT GETTING TO LETHAL DOSE BECAUSE THE SIZE OF THE BIRDS? I DONT KNOW... OR THE LETHALITY MAY JUST BE A "QUAIL THING"?

Thanks JJ I was really posting for a friend. I have always kept my quail in a pen with out any branches of any kind. One fourth of it covered so they can get out of the elements and for laying (I use hay) The cedar shavings and branches all over I use are in a huge open pen. My friends is the same except she wants to use JUST the branches and I was going to tell her she should be fine but wasnt 100 % beacause I never did branches with quail (just most every other bird) But from what you told me I dont think I can recommend any cedar of any kind around quails for safety sake. BTW my opinion is its a quail thing or I would have problems everywhere.

YES, MAYBE JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR SMALLER SIZE??? I DUNNO BUT I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY BREED OF PHEASANT OR MIGRATORY WATERFOWL, OR OTHER POULTRY FOR THAT MATTER... SO IT COULD BE THEY ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE TO IT, OR JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR SIZE THEY REACH LETHAL DOSE THRESHOLD SOONER?
