Question about changing feed?

Is it safe to change feed from medicated to non medicated crumbles?

We are thinking of adopting two ducklings from a friend and were told that they can eat the same crumbles as long as it is not medicated as it is not good for the ducklings. However our chicks are on medicated now so I just wanted to make sure that we would not be putting them is serious risk by changing there food.
