Question about heating lamp

I second this for your purpose. We have two of them. One we had for 7 years we just had to replace so they are hardy.

Welcome to BYC!! :frow

the pig needs heat but the chickens don't, so should I put a heating lamp in there for the Baby pig or should I make her a bed to sleep in that will keep her warm at night ?
Of those two options, I think a bed for the pig would be a better choice than a heat lamp.

Another question, the chickens roost up stairs on the rafters, the heating lamp is sucruly attached to the 2x4 ( so it can't be knocked down) and the lamp is 5' 8" from the floor, so you suggest to still not put heating lamp in there ?🙂
What temperature does the pig need?

If the pig is on the floor, and you are trying to keep the pig warm, then I do not think it makes sense to put the lamp that high up. I would think that a heat source closer to the pig would be a better choice.

I have used heating lamps for my chick brooders for about 30 years without incident. But I always have them secured by at least 2 methods, like a chain and rope, or 2 chains. Also, for the brooder, I have a physical barrier of hardware cloth between the heat lamp and the bedding, so if the heat lamp somehow manages to come off my 2 methods of securing it, then the heat lamp would fall on the hardware cloth and not into the bedding.

I don't know how much good a heat lamp would be for your pig if it is 5'8" off the floor. That seems like it would be way too high to provide much heat.

Although I have never raised a pig, I find myself agreeing with others to build a bed up off the ground and put a heating panel right next to it. That seems like a safer option to me.

This one is on Cyber Monday sale at Amazon...
