Question about horizontal nipple waterer

Hello, I have six 11 day old baby chicks and I just removed their regular automatic waterer that has the lip and put a horizontal nipple waterer in their brooder. I took each chick and put their beak up to the nipple and flicked it a couple of times so they they could taste the water. I did this a couple of times to each chick. I watched them for an hour and they were very curious about it, but they haven’t drank out of it yet. I also put a piece of their food below each nipple to attract their attention hopefully. I left the new watering system in their brooder for the night. Is this ok? Will they figure it out by themselves since they’ve been shown? Thanks!

I too was looking to switch to a horizontal nipple system. The kit I bought says not for chicks under 2 weeks. My guess is that they are not strong enough to peck the nipple hard enough. (Weirdest sentence I’ve typed. LOL)

I would keep a close eye and see if that’s the case.

I just saw that too on the kit I just bought. They turn 2 weeks old Thursday. Would 3 days really make a difference?
