Hello everyone!
On Thursday one of my precious hens was attacked by the neighbor dog, and she is wounded in several places. There is a tear in her skin close to her left wing, but none of the muscle is damaged in that spot.
She has a few puncture wounds from his teeth. The worst wound is a big rip in her chest area and something is sticking out of there. It looks like it is yellow and almost has the look of folds like a brain has, that's the best way I can describe it.
I was told that it could be part of her digestive system, or a pus pocket. I do not believe it is a pus pocket but I'm not an expert either. A good friend of mine has been giving me some awesome advice but I'd like some more input.
I cannot find a vet that will see a chicken, which devastates me. Idk if she is going to heal up if something is hanging out if her chest. I've been told that if she is eating and drinking she should make it and she is eating ok, and I'm making sure she drinks water with a little gatorade in it. I've been giving it to her by hand and I think she is also drinking because she doesn't look dehydrated.
I bought vetricyl wound spray and I washed her wounds once a day and also put neosporin on them. This happened 3 days ago and I'm not seeing any obvious signs of infection. She has red around her eyes, and I'm told that's from her being in pain, but her eyes don't look glossy at all. She stands up but mostly lays down. I have her inside the house in a wire cage so I can keep her warm.
I guess my main question would be is it possible for her to heal up even though it appears that something is sticking out of her? I keep reading that you could close bacteria in if you try to close it up. I tried to push it in but it caused too much pain and didn't stay. I'm so terribly upset that she is so wounded! Any advice is so greatly appreciated!
