Question about installing a fan in the coop.

I've been leaving mine on 24/7...but it hasn't been cooling down of an evening. When it starts to cool off, I'll probably set mine on a timer to shut off during the night. Come winter, the fan will be turned off completely and rely on the ventilation vents of the coop.

I put a fan in my coop last week but it didn't help the inside temps at all. I put the fan in the big vent I have close to the roof blowing out. I ended up taking it out since it didn't seem to cool the coop off at all.

I am on generation #3 fan. First a 12 inch oscillating fan, ( my husband made fun of me for getting it for the chickens), but the girls just looked miserable, so "he" picked up a 20 in box fan to put in the window (#2), but then one of my Doms got heat exhaustion and the next day, generation #3 arrived. A thermastacilly controled vent fan for a 1500 sqare foot house (my coop is only 8 ft by 10 ft). We have vents on the West side of the coop along the floor and sliding windows on the South and East with roof vent along the East. The fan is now on the North. My does is ever make a difference!!! Just go ahead and configure a thermastatically controlled vent fan into the plans and save yourself the trouble down the road......water bottles are great and little fans are too, but I'm just saying, this vent fan was worth every penney knowing it is electrically sound, won't waste electricity, and turns itself on at 80 degrees. I have piece of mind whan I'm away. Oh, one my thing. It is so cute to see them all sleepy at night with their little tails "puffed" from the gentle breeze!! and Egg production has gone back up, less stress from the heat = more eggs!
