I recently bought some black lights on the box it says this

It is a 75 WAtt black light

"use only in luminaries marked with at least twice the lamp wattage" & "This bulb becomes very hot when in use and should be allowed to cool before removing"

Does this mean I can only put it in a socket that has a max of a 150 watts? I am kinda confused? All i have is fixtures that are 60 watt max??

interesting questions.

YES That is what it means. Never put a bulb with higher wattage than the lamp is made for. Black lights use twice the wattage due to their heat.

If you have a lamp that takes a 60, do not put a 75 in it. It will blow!

I've never heard this.

However, I did notice that most of the black light bubls sold at Wal-Mart came in low wattages, like 25 watts.

75 watt black light is a nightclub level. That is really high wattage. I learned all this the hard way mind you. It was a mess!!!!! We were finding pieces of light bulb for months!

I guess fluorescent black lights don't have that kind of problems? They don't get hot. I've had a fluorescent black light for "forever" and that's what's in my bug zapper light too.

Of course heat is probably what the OP wanted one for.
