Hi all!
I little new to this, so I am so sorry if this is in the wrong place! I am interested in knowing more about the Light Sussex as a meat bird. We raised some Mistral Gris last year and they were pretty greasy and fatty as a meat bird. I am looking at Light Sussex this year to try...does anyone know if they are a greasy chicken for cooking? Are they pretty good layers? The reason I ask is that I can only buy them unsexed so I am wondering if I should get them or not.

Thanks for any help!

Light Sussex are dual purpose breeds that are good layers of large, brown eggs (3-4 per week per hen) and make decent meat birds. I've never had a problem with them being greasy and fatty. In addition to eggs and meat, they are cold hardy and have very good temperaments. My children made lap pets of some of ours.)
