this might be a dumb question, but do chicks need light to sleep as well? I have a red bulb to provide heat and light, but I've been keeping that off at night and using a heater to keep them warm. they sleep for a few hours, but they wake up every now and then. do I need to keep the light on even at night? or is what Im doing rn okay?

No.

My chicks did just fine with pitch blackness all night from the first night on until they were in the coop where they sometimes get moonlight at night. I did gradually lower the lights at bedtime and raise the lights in the morning when they didn't have windows.

They woke up sometimes but did not make distressed noises.
