I came to acquire a male muscovy duck over the weekend. I put him in a pen completley seperate from the other ducks for the past three days (he could still see the other ducks). I was curious about the temperarment of this type of duck and if he would be able to live with a male mallard and male pekin that I currently have living together (I keep males and females seperated by a sturdy wood frame chicken wire fence I built that divide the pen in half except when breeding or after I have decided what to do with any of the ducklings. Overall none of the ducks are truly alone nor are they prevented from seeing and talking with one another. Just wanted to disclaim that). The mallard and pekin are pretty much inseperable at this point and id like to have this guy live with the two of them. I have done several controlled introductions and they have yet to be aggressive towards each other. I appreciate any information!

I don't own ducks myself but my best friend has a collection of assorted birds. Their male muscovy hangs out with ducks, chickens, turkeys, and peacocks of all ages and genders and never seems to be aggressive. He loves to walk around hissing and wagging his tail but that's about it!

A lot of people around me claim muscovies are very aggressive to humans. However that could be genetic, or they could be making the ducks mad and not really noticing it they never seem to be aggressive when I see them. But they also aren't usually the friendliest of ducks

Thats pretty much my experience so far. They have been together for about three hours today with no issue. He isnt aggressive towards me much either unless I get in his space or try to pick him up but thats pretty much any duck in my experience.

My Muscovy drake is fine with my two Runner drakes it’s another Muscovy he won’t tolerate or my gander they are separated.
Another question if you dont mind, do Muscovies have a low heat tolerance? He is always walking around in the early morning and late afternoon but spends the hot hours of the day inside the dog houses that I have converted into duck coops. They have a lot of ventilation so im sure its comfortable for him but I have never seen a duck always go into shelter during the middle of the day. Its been averaging 90 - 95 f here in Kansas.
