I have all of my pullets on 1/4 cc of Tylan 50 injected in the breast, once daily. Today marked the third dose. I have 6 birds that are currently receiving this medicine and all are given a dose of vitamins (roughly 1/2-1 mL) each day.

The only bird I was seriuosly concerned for seems fully recovered. None of the birds are exhibiting any symptoms of a respiratory ailment and I hate to continue dosing healthy birds with needless meds. Should I continue with this round or is it safe to stop now (day 3) or tomorrow (day 4) I believe I was told here that the average round should last 5-7 days. Does that apply to birds no longer exhibiting any symptoms?

Thanks in advance!

The instructions on the Penicillin bottle say no more than 4 days. Dr. Brown advocates 5 days or so with Tylan. It's not an antibiotic you want to give long term, that's for sure. Those antibiotics mess with their systems and they need probiotics to get back to normal, like active culture yogurt.

I think I'll stop now...thank you all for the advice. In hindsight I think I was dealing with a reaction to a very damp coop and improper bedding. (New to chickens...didn't quite understand the deep litter method and it wasn't working well with a waterer constantly dumping out water)

We were finally able to put the roost in as well and I think getting them off the floor has also helped tremendously. So...new bedding, new waterer, santized coop and proper roost...everyone's happy.

Hope everything clears up. Sounds like you have a handle on it now. If you need anything, give us a holler!
