I have a group of chicks that are about 4-5 weeks that are on non medicated feed because they were vaccinated. I just got 8 more chicks that were not vaccinated and I have them on start n grow medicated (they are caged separately) I have read varying answers on how long to keep them on medicated, 6-8 weeks all the way to laying age. I would like to move them all to the coop around 6-8 weeks of age. Will it be safe to take the non vaccinated chicks off the medicated feed at that age? TIA!

Are you certain the vaccination was for cocci, not Marek's?

Presuming it was cocci... If they are caged, they haven't touched soil yet and that means little to no chance to build resistance. In order for medicated food to be useful, the chicks need to be exposed to the cocci in the soil while they are still eating the feed.

So, will it be safe to expose them without medication? It will if you don't have high levels of cocci in your soil. I haven't personally used medicated feed at all so I know gradual exposure works fine here. But you aren't my neighbor, so... :/
