Okay so I have decided I am going to start vaccinating my chicks with the Mereks vaccine. I found the vaccine and now I am trying to find small needles. My question is can I use the diabetic needles for this? If not what needle should I use.

Please only respond if you have vaccinated your chicks before.

Thanks

I have not vaccinated chicks before, but I do work for an avian vet and give intramuscular injections to birds all the time. Insulin needles are ideal because they are so small and while we do have larger needles at work, we rarely use them on our avian patients. Just be careful about the dosing as there are different kinds of insulin (and therefor needles, U40, U100, etc). You want the U100 needles because then each mark will be equal to 0.01cc. If you get a different kind (such as the U40) then you will have to do the math to figure out how much of the vaccine to draw up.

ok, where can I get some of this vaccine at. I went to jeffers and its $14.95 but when I go to checkout they add all kinds of other charges on and it totals to $48.31.....
