Question about mites, ivermectin, and poultry dust

I was outside watching my serama youngsters 'free range'. I noticed one kept scratching herself. At first, I didn't think much of it, maybe she was grooming? But then she kept doing it so I picked her up to have a look. She had quite a bit of mites under her wings, so I came inside and got the poultry dust. I checked a couple of the others and didn't see any mites on them, but went ahead and dusted everyone for good measure.

Mites were literally crawling all over these poor birds!! I didn't realize they had them so badly. Of course, after I'd dusted them, I remembered that I have some ivermectin pour-on wormer and that that probably would have worked better. So now I'm wondering how soon after dusting them can I use the ivermectin?

I always dip or spray them first then after they dry ( a couple of hrs ) I dust them. I do the same to the coop & run's then put them back in. I repeat this in 2 weeks to break the egg cycle.

I agree that you'll have to do the coop and run whether you use the ivermectin or not. I probably wouldn't use the ivermectin unless they were due for worming. I've never read about waiting a particular period of time between using them, but I don't think I'd use them one right behind the other.

I used seven dust the first time and then used ivomec pour on for the repeat treatment. I just didn't feel like dusting myself again.

They are 20 weeks old and have been outside for about a week. So I'm sure it won't hurt to worm them even though I doubt they've got any. So I should wait a while before using the ivermectin? I dusted their house but their 'run' is basically grass and some of their roommates come and go (let out at morning) as they please, so I don't think dusting the run will do any good.

Too bad they don't make chicken flea collars
