I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this question:
This is day 16 for a broody Silkie sitting on 6 eggs (she is an experienced hen, but I only bought her a couple of months ago so this is my first experience with this). At day 6, I isolated her to a portable dog kennel (24" x 32") within the chicken house so that no other hen would lay more eggs in her nest. I want to move her to an isolated hutch that will let her and the chicks have more room, but I don't know whether to do it now or wait till the chicks hatch????

No, do it now. If she's really broody she'll go back to the eggs.

Do it now, before lockdown, or after the chicks hatch. Your choice.

They do, however have to be in a different erea so that the babies will not

get trampled by others. I learned the hard way and lost 2/3 babies and

the one that lived went through a leg break a broken wing, and spraddle

leg, and could not even stand. Luckily I was ables to get her back up

and going but it took time.

Better to wait til the chicks hatch. Even silkies will sometimes give up a nest, if stressed, although highly unlikely. After they hatch and are dry, she will leave the nest with them. That`s a good time frame, but do it at night when she will be more compliant. Good luck........Pop

I think I will wait till after the eggs hatch. It might stress her too much since the hutch is in a new area that I will move her to. Thanks for the advice.
