I was just wondering, since i've had mine for almost two years, one question kept bothering me and i can't seem to find answers anywhere. Once copulation occurs between two muscovies, how many of her eggs are fertilized? Because i have noticed that copulation activity seems rather infrequent (as compared to pekin), but it turned out that all her eggs had hatched!! Anyone have any idea?

Also, i have noticed that they have a color preference, they like to mate with ones with like colors, the black male is never interested in the white female...lol

I do not know how many eggs are fertilized at a time. When I separate my breeds in the spring I keep them separate for at least three weeks before offering them as purebred. They say that the female can retain sperm from a different male for that long. I never noticed my drakes had a color preference. I suppose it is possible.

3 weeks to a month. I was wondering how mine knew to pair up beautifully!!! All the hens and drakes that paired off together look alike!!!

Is this due to a local ruling or is this in regards to the FSW regulation 50:24 ? If it in regards to FSW regulation then you need to read this link where that regulation ENFORCEMENT has been put on HOLD as they REVISE it with our input. Post #1 has the updates by and large. This fight is not over nationally. Locally, is another story.
