i have 2 americauna left from 9... the others were roosters, minus one i let a hen and rooster go together (couldnt separate them) they were silkies tooo anyways.

i have 2 americaunas left (love these ones) i got them in june as chicks) and the one that i think is laying is now getting a bright red comb. ( i think these are ugly and was glad when they were small) i have a light out there to give them more daylight at least 14 hours. its funny though because the one i dont think is laying still has a small (pretty) comb. please tell me that they are both females and why is this getting bright red now. i have caught it laying eggs. i get one everyday/everyother day. now if it was the one that i dont think is laying (just screaming when the other one does) i wouldnt be so surprised.
gonna try and put a picture up the one in question is the one towards the left

also the one towards the right is getting pretty dominate (towards me) how do i stop this behaviour i am becoming afraid of her thanks
the one towards the back has already been laying

over night got big and red and ugly

this is the one that i dont think is laying but screams alot when the other one lays lol

You have two Easter Eggers, they are not Ameraucanas. Both, are pullets. The reason their comb is getting bigger, is because they are maturing.

Honestly, the way to get your hen to not be aggressive is to not fear her. Walk up to her calmly, if she shows aggression stomp your foot and chase her. Remember she is a chicken, and you are her master.

thank you for saying they are both hens!!!! after having so many roosters i get worried. easter eggers and americaunas arent the same? crap. i still love these girls... so now when then other one starts to Mature she might start to lay? all she does right now is scream (i think its funny it just tells me egg, egg im getting an egg.and to all the "predators the same" and then she will lay in the next box while the other one is laying..... (keeping her company i guess) lmao

what i have been doing about the aggressiveness is making her "squat" then picking her up (away from my face!) then i put her back in the pen. i cant wait right now they are in a pen on my deck. (talk about backyard chickens..)

thank you

both pullets and when they get close to laying their combs turn red. they are Easter eggers and not ameraucana and no they are not the same thing, an ee is any bird that carries the blue egg laying gene.

the squating is her expecting you to mate with her. you have to show her your domanate and confront her not be afraid of her as she cant really hurt you like a cockerel coould

thank you.... what i guess i am not understanding is that this one chicken has been laying since oct/nov. should this have happened when she started laying? its the other one who is NOT LAYING yet.... she just keeps her company (litterly sits in the other box next to her and waits for the sign and then starts screaming.) and if i dont take the egg out immediately she will lay on it. all i would like it 2 chickens = 2 eggs in one day.. lmao

Sometimes if you have only hens one of the hens will take a dominant role and act like a rooster at times. Some of these hens may not lay. Many hens that mature late in the fall will not start laying until spring. Adding light up to 14 hours a day will help with that, but it is not the same as natural light, so the non-laying hen may still may start laying as the days get longer.

I'd bet that you'll find a second egg in the next week. She's very close and you should be glad that she's paying close attention and will lay in the box.
