Hello, I'm new when it comes to back yard chicks.. My hens just had their first round of chicks.. I went out side yesterday and found a newly hatched chick out side the coop on the ground dead. This morning I've got two more with the hen still sitting on them. I have two roosters in the pin with all my hens. When should I remove the chicks from the brooder and put them in a seperate cage so they can grow without getting killed.? I have a separate pin with a heat lamp for the little ones just don't know when I should take them away from momma hen? Any help in the matter will be much appreciated.:/

A mother hen will protect the chicks from the other chickens.
You can keep them in the same pen but you'll need to switch the whole flock to grower feed and provide oyster shell on the side.

Unless you saw something happen, you don't know why the chick died.

I was out there this morning and noticed another hen and one of the roosters standing on one of the chicks
