Question about my old dog?? is she dying? (update page 2)

Mrs. Feathers :

Wow! 18 is a very long life for a dog. You must be giving her a wonderful life with lots of love.
I would suggest giving her what she feels she can handle, keep her warm and comfortable with lots of gentle cuddles and love and do give your vet a call in the morning as, like older humans, older dogs can dehydrate quickly.
If it is her time she will let you know in her own way.
Hugs to you both and I hope you have a peaceful night.
It is not easy helping our dear friends through their final stages of life.

I know of no better advice. You guys should cuddle up tonight together and get some rest. If she is just sick...im sure it will comfort her. If she is more than sick, can you think of a better goodby than that. She will let you know.

i put her in her bed. she seems comfortable. i put a blanket on her. if shes still holding on in the morning ill take her to the vet and see what they can do. Ive never lost a pet ive had so long. shes my first pet ive ever had. shes more like a sister than a pet. ill keep everyone posted on her progress. im just hoping she got into something that upset her tummy and shell be ok. shes a fighter..shes been hit by cars and trucks, and attacked by dogs and moved everywhere with us. shes been through all the stress in our life and just keeps goin....... im hoping shell pull through.

It's REALLY good that there's no blood. If she keeps puking tonight give her some PeptoBismol (pill form is easiest if you happen to have it). Otherwise just try to keep her comfy til morning when you can get her to a vet.

I wouldn't jump to the foregone conclusion that she is dying, but she does need to see a vet ASAP. Vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of interest in food/water could indicate a number of things, some of which are very treatable and some not so much. My first concern with a dog of any age would be pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is a bit more severe than just an upset tummy and needs to be treated promptly. Given her age, kidney problems are also a very real probability. Depending on whether it's acute or chronic kidney failure it may be something that she can pull through with treatment. A bacterial overgrowth can also cause these symptoms and can be pretty easy to treat. If she's vomiting and not interested in food, I wouldn't offer it to her. I'm sort of on the fence about not offering water, it's what the vet will do if it is pancreatitis but the vet will also be giving her IV fluids to keep her hydrated so it may be best for you to offer her small amounts of water if she will drink it until you can get in to see the vet. Love on her, make her comfortable, and see what the vet says in the morning. Good luck to both of you.
