When will it be safe for me to take them outside for some fresh air? It is in the upper 90's here. I still have them in the bator keeping warm and drying. Do I need to wait a few days or a few weeks???

Shoot, if it's in the 90's and there is a safe place to keep them out there, I'd go ahead and let them go outside. Just wait a day or so to make sure they have their feet first. Once they are perky, you can pop them outside no problem.

I personally pop week old chicks outside in a brooder perminantly even when day highs are in the 50's. I just provide a heat lamp.

Thanks silkiechicken, it has the heat index up to 103-105. I thought they would be good out during day. i wil bring them in a night. I am a first timer though with no mama hen to make the decisions, lol. So i have to rely on you all. when all my hatch is done i will pop some pics up and see if you may know what they are. I know they are a feather legged breed but that is all i know about all but 3. I am pretty sure 2 are blue silkies and one a buff silkie, the rest are a mystery.

Thanks for the help

Jennifer

By all means if it is 90 plus degrees they should be fine. The chicks will let you know when they get cold, they will huddle next to one another for warmth then it's time to bring them in. As they get their feathers the less high temps. will be needed, usually about 5 degrees lower per week. Again the chicks will let you know how they like it.
