Question about old hens....

Our old hen just died this past summer and was 14 years old. She laid two eggs in the last month of her life. She didn't have grey feathers but her legs looked pretty gnarly...
Wow that's pretty good. What breed was she?

Delayed response haha! She was just a barnyard mix of who knows what.

Onyx, our nine year old, has built a nest and sits in it once in a while. She hasn't laid anything that I have seen, but I'm not too worried as she acts ok. She was always very broody in her prime, lol.

Wow! Nine is a ripe old age too. There are some special ones that deserve to just live out their days in happiness :)

Oh, absolutely! She is useful in many ways. She calms the younger birds by showing them it's ok to be touched and handled. She still has a fling once in a while with a rooster. And she is just an old sweetie, anyway, lol.
