Ever since last fall, I noticed I have a hen that does that choking type motion right after she eats. I think she must eat too fast or has digestive issues(boy do I know the feeling). Would possibly adding coconut oil to their feed help with this now that its warming up or does anyone have any thoughts? Its not that I don't have enough feed bowls, so I don't know why she gets like that. This was one ib hen I got from a friend that had always been penned with 5 others so maybe she feels like she needs to hurry and just isn't built for it.

Have you tried wetting her food , mine do much better with this method as i use crumbles, mine also free range and prefer foraging but do eat the crumbles hen it is to wet and rainy to forage.

Mine don't seem to like their crumbles moist so much, or they don't eat them quick enough to keep them from going sour. When their babies that's the only way I feed them. I just usually put 8 or 9 bowls out and thevwet stuff is left untouched. :idunno

If the crumbles get packed down it is hard for them to eat them, i keep water in a reservoir and add feed to it as they eat it, keeps the feed loose enough for them to get a hold of it.

here is a chick setup of reservoir and crumbles it works great for older birds on a bigger scale, and it allows you to add meds when needed

Capillary worms could cause thickening of her esophagus, thus making it harder for her to swallow.
