Hi all, I could use some advice. I have a flock of turkins, they are only about 11 months old. Laying very well. I had one hem go broody, so I let her, and she managed to hatch one baby. I know it’s nothibg to brag about, but I’m proud of that mama. Fumbled through her first attempt! Anyways, I want to raid the chick with the flock, but I’m not sure how to make sure it’s getting food and water. I have a hanging nipple system for the rest of the flock, and a hanging gravity feed. I can put a chick waterer and chick food in, but how do I keep the adults from eating and drinking the chicks food and water? Chick hatched on the 18th, mama took her off the nest today the 19th, I put mama and chick in a make shift enclosure inside the coop, but mama wants out...any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s to happy flocks!

Following!

I have about 2 dozen eggs sitting under two of my broody hens...on day 9 if I remember correctly. ‍♂️

I’m also concerned what my flock of 30+ birds will do to so many new chicks? Mine are a little younger than yours (all hatched 10/10/17), about 7-8 months old.

I moved my rooster to a separate section of the coop/pen to make life a little less stressful for the chicks (and hens) lol. The hens seem to pretty much ignore the babies, they were curious at first, but leave them alone. Mama watches over them pretty well, until she accidentally kicks one and it goes rolling. I made a small bage to hold the food and water for the chicks, with an opening at each end that’s not big enough for the adults to get in, seems to be working nicely. At first the adults would eat and drink all the chicks food and water for in no time...now at least I know they will always have access to food and water. Keep us posted about your hatch! Good luck!
