I live in a tropical country in Southeast Asia. My quails are one week and 2 days old. Is it okay if I turn off the lights of my baby quails now or should I wait for another week? There are only 4 of them in my homemade brooder. Help! :( I notice they still like cuddle each other with or without light. Although, they're much hyper with the light on.

The temperature should be around 80-85F (26-30 celcius). If they are cuddle together, that mean the temperature little low. What kind of light bulb are you using? The fluorescent bulb do not give out a lot of heat. I put my quail in the card board box with few holes for vent. It does hold heat real well.

I am using a 25 watt yellow bulb. I read somewhere that 25 watt yellow bulb is good for them. Though, I should probably adjust its distance from the quails... What do you think?

Oh, and at times, they like to jump and they hit the ceiling which is covered in styrofoam. This is normal behavior for 1 week old quails right? They're just exercising their wings? By the way, I find them to be growing at a very fast rate. Is this normal? Just one week and their feathers are changing.

By the way, I placed them inside a basket with a thick brown folder underneath. The one in the picture had died because its legs were splayed (and didn't eat for some reason) as I thought it okay to use cloth.

It depend on the size of the box. I currently have 36 2 days old coturnix quails in the 2feet x 1.5feet card board box The 60watt incandescent light bulb put out about 90F at one end and other end around 77F and they move around where they like. You may need to get yourself a some type of temperature gauge.
