Question about red faces

Red faces can tell about the time they're getting to the age of lay (4 or so months). But really i don't think it tells much, my fowls faces are red all year around and i never see any difference. Red faces are a example of health in my opinion..

Pick your hen up and feel around the vent, you'll feel two bones... If you can fit two fingers between the pelvic bones then they're about to lay.

Cool - thanks - never heard that one before! I have two BO's, one about 4 months and one about 3 months. I noticed this morning that the 4-month-old is suddenly looking quite red in the face while the 3-month-old isn't. So it made me curious as to how long before laying this really happens, since I am not expecting eggs for awhile yet (the oldest will be mature enough to lay around the shortest day of the year so I decided to just be realistic and not look for eggs until some time after that!)
