Question about roosters

Not sure if I posted this in the right topic...

But... my question is... I have two roosters, A Barred Rock and a Rhode Island Red. The Barred Rock(the big boss of the coop) is extremely aggressive and attacks us, while the Rhode Island Red is nicer, and lets us hold him. If my family were to get rid of the more aggressive rooster, would the nice rooster take over and become aggressive towards us?

Any answers would be helpful. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to chickens.

Each situation - each roo - is unique, so the answer is unknown. My lone roos have been as gentle and wondrous as can be.

Sorry your BR is acting unpleasant. It's possible you could change his behavior, depending upon his constitution...and how you work with him. Sometimes it's not too difficult and sometimes it is very challenging........

I'm going to guess no he wouldnt become a jerk, But would become the "head" rooster, I cant see why he would become mean !!!!

Maybe you could put the head rooster in a pen for awhile and test the other one.

the reason the BR is aggressive is that he is the protector of the land,, he's SUPPOSE to be,,,, and YES there IS a CHANCE once your rir is boss, that he will protect the same way,,, he doesnt now because he is low on the pecking order,, once they move up,, your chance is 50/50



EDIT: have you tried teaching your BR that your boss not him?

Dealing with aggressive roosters is a common topic here, but it's an important one. A lot of folks have had experience re-training their roosters to be less aggressive. If you're interested in keeping both your roosters, and are willing to work with the aggressive rooster to train him, you might try taking a look at Rooster-Red's BYC page on rooster behavior. I just did this exact thing you are asking about... I re-homed an aggressive and very loud alpha roo and am watching to see if the omega will turn alpha... So far, after just three days, the one we kept (BLRW) is keeping his head up for predators and finding good worm spots for the hens -which he never did before... He has not come after us yet. Although I knew what to do when the other one did (thank you BYC postings!!), it was trying to tell the nieces and nephews who came to visit about how to deal with him that made me clearly realize he had to go.

So far I have not been ganged upon.

Lester was picked to be the head boy for the wyandottes and is doing his job well. He only pecked me once when I was messing with one of the hens and she was being fussy. It was not a hard peck, just a stop that kinda thing. Lester has become protective of the girls since he got chosen as the main rooster. He leads them to the best foraging spots when free ranging and to their favorite dust bathing spots. He calls them to yummy treats and escorts them to the nest boxes when that urge kicks in. He has no problem with the whoopie either. (At first he was quite clumsy but he has improved on that)

I always pet the boys at roost time and love messing with them. As the boys were growing up I would mess with them by picking them up, petting their wattles, backs, and wiggling their tails. Just letting them know I was boss over them. I still do this too.

Long Tail is the only people aggressive boy and he is currently in the bachler pen soon to be dressed for dinner. Long Tail is mean to everyone from the hens, to the other boys, to people, to whomever looks like a good target. I don't know why he turned out so extra grumpy but we have a good rooster and have no need of a grumpy one.

Even when you mess with them and let them know you are boss, there are times when you may find yourself with an extra grumpy rooster that is just determined to be mean to everyone near him. These extra grumpy roosters do make nice dinner guests though.
