I am thinking about getting some Seramas next year. I have read that they cannot tolerate the winter cold and have to be house birds in the winter. Is this true, or would they do well in a draft free coop?

I have heard that seramas can't take the cold weather like other birds, but I have 5 that a friend gave me. They are awesome little birds, and I did keep mine inside for a while when I first got them. It wasn't because it was cold, but so I could keep a close eye on them because they were new. Several birds can be kept in an indoor dog kennel. I live in Georgia and I know the temps are a lot different from Nebraska, but if keeping them inside wasn't too much of an issue, then I would get them and try it.

At least if it didn't work, maybe there is someone you know that would take them?

I think the "A" sized ones would have more of a problem. I have a "C' size serama outside right now and so far she seems good. I have been watching her today because the temps went from 70's at the beginning of the week down to 30's today. We are even having our first snow "flurry". She is out there running around and doesn't seem to be affected. My frizzle banty cochins are having more of a problem.
