question about silkie run

yeah that makes sense. i think ill just get a new roo anyways. he's not that nice lol

You might want to put some bird netting over your run to protect from hawks and owls. I have read that you can breed brother to sister, but THEN don't breed father to daughter or mother to son.

Here is a discussion on father mother sister brother inbreeding. Please disregard the below comments (except for the part about the dog kennel

You can breed father to daughter IF the father and mother weren't sister and brother. This is what I have read on BYC. But take it with a grain of salt since I can't seem to find the link.

I have 3 (soon to be 6) silkies in a 6 x 10 dog kennel, 6 feet high with netting overhead, and the coop inside the kennel (but they can walk under it).

I have welded wire fencing on top along with tin for protection of snow and rain.

you are more related to your brother and sister then you are your father or mother, does that confuse you ?

as a pigeon breeder for over 50 years,i don't think twice about a brother and sister mateing or a fatherXdaughter or motherXson mateing.

the idea is to breed for qualities that you want in your live stock and once you have it,you want to stay in the same family,,auntsXnephews and uncleXnieces.

every time you out cross to another family ,you expand the gene pool and you are back where you started, with crap, unless you are after something in the new family that brings some thing special in to the breeding.

I edited my above post to include a link to another thread. Obviously either I am remembering what I read incorrectly or just cannot find the link now...either way--- disregard my info please! Thanks for your expertise!
