Question about the best breeds to buy?

i really love my red sex links and light brahmas both are dual purpose breeds and the brahmas have rose combs that winters dont bother them either, they lay through snow storms even. very cold hardy and the males reach over 10 lbs in weight talk about big frying legs

I've just started the game myself. Welcome to byc. I wanted the same thing a dual purpose bird not so much for the meat (I don't like chicken that much)but for the option if needed.
I choose the RIR but the barred rock was my next choice. All the older farmers would always mention the RIR as one of their favorites. Good luck on all your chicken adventures.
