Question about worming my chickens with vinegar.

If you search apple cider vinegar or ACV, here on the BYC forum, you'll find lots of helpful information. I bought a gallon of Braggs ACV this past Friday. I've decided to use it too and was pleased that it didn't taste as bad as I thougth it would.

There is some speculation that vinegar may acidify the gut of chickens and can be used as
a mild preventative to help keep worm loads down by making it inhospitable. It won't do much for a bird
that has a heavy load of worms though.

As far as I know, vinegar of any type is not a wormer. Organic, unfiltered ACV with the mother (sediment) has many beneficial properties, but deworming isn't one of them. I've used it as a tea with honey and lemon when I have a cold.

Vinegar I'm not familiar with, however diatomaceous earth(DE) has worked for everything in my coop. Here is a link to a very well written article from Canada about DE http://www.diatomitecanada.com/learn-about-de.htm and its very easy to use.

Apple Cider Vinegar used a few times a week will make a stronger and more flexable feather. You may notice that some chickens have feathers that are brittle and easily broken. Give them ACV a few days a week and you'll see the difference. I'm sure there's other benefits too, but that's what I use it for.

Its my understanding that ACV slightly changes the PH in their bodies making them less attractive to parasites. I don't think it actually kills parasites; just makes them uncomfortable so that they move on.
