Question about worms.

I am wondering if my chicken has worms. I am unable to see anything obvious in her poop. She has had watery poop the last week (yellow/white in color) She has been tired recently and just laying around most of the day. Her color looks good but she isn’t eating much and only drinks a little bit. I am not sure if this could possibly be worms, cocci? I am at a loss and wondering how I can make her feel better.

Thank you.

Worms and their eggs are seldom seen in poop, but you might be able to see roundworm without a microscope. A fecal float by a vet can rule out worms and their eggs. Worms may be treated with Valbazen 0.5 ml given orally and again in 10 days. Or use either SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer or Panacur Horse paste 0.25 ml per pound given orally, for 5 consecutive days. Neither of these mixes in water, and should be given orally.

How old is she and does she normally lay eggs? What does her crop feel like—empty and flat, full, hard, doughy, or puffy soft? Is it empty by the next morning before she eats or sleeps? What do you feed her? Be sure and check her skin for mites and lice. Try offering her some wet chicken feed mash with a little scrambled egg.

Thanks for your reply. I have safeguard ready if we end up giving it to her. She is 6 years old and stopped laying around 1 month ago.

Her crop seems to feel normal. She hasn’t been eating a lot so her crop isn’t full at night.

We feed her new country organics layer feed. She has been eating that for a while now.

She ate some scrambled eggs yesterday and I will be cooking her more later. I also have given her nutridrench the last 3 days. I am switching it up and going to give her poultry cell later.

I am concerned on starting her on safeguard and worms not being the issue, we don’t have a lot of vets here that see chickens and the ones that do have a long wait time. She doesn’t have the classic signs of cocci or worms. It is very frustrating.

Thank you.
