I have 16 chicks that I got on the 20th of May, and I was wondering If I can change them from Paper toweling to Softwood bedding pellets.
Will they eat it?
Will it hurt them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't see a problem- for the most part, the pellets are too big for them to eat, I've used them in the past and didn't have an issue. Just watch them, make sure they're not eating them, but you should be good.

I have used pine shavings since day one...they peck at it a bit, then realize it isn't food. And it smells great.

We've used the pine pellet bedding from day 1 (our chicks were a day or so old I think when we got them). They are 10 days old now. It does get in the food so when it's time to refill the feeder, I dump what's left in it. I suppose I could sift out the pellets but I'm too lazy.

Here's what i think:

Pine: toxic to chicks, safe for older ones

Cedar: toxic for everything

Aspen:safe

pellets: probably

It is fine-paper towels first day or two--than after that shavings... They figure out what they can eat and They willl be fine..
