I took 4 different chicks into my oldest daughters school for her class to see and touch. They had a bunch of myths and I was tired of my daughter having to correct them all the time. The last argument was about chickens not having tongues.

The kids and chicks loved it!

I read some advise awhile back on a great way to have young kids interact with chicks. Have the kids sit on the floor in a circle. Have them spread there legs apart with their feet touching the feet of the people on each side of them. Their legs will make a little fence with no gaps. Then put some chicks in the center of the circle. The chicks are not going to get hurt from dropping and the chance of having an escapee is greatly reduced.
