Question Concerning Shipping & Handling Of Eggs

Now wait a second folks. I am not trying to get anyone in trouble here. I just want to see if what I was being told about shipping was correct. Again, Ive fooled with birds for many years but never shipped any eggs until recently.

The only one of the three instances I feel like was a ripoff on purpose was the extended date and then wanting a restocking fee LOL.

The other folks were all good people who said their method worked for them. I DONT know nor am I pointing fingers at anyone just wanting info is all.

By that time, they are basically unhatchable, sorry. That person, to put it kindly, is blowing smoke. If I were you, I'd never buy from that person again. Three week old eggs are mostly just for eating, not hatching. I have no idea who it is and it really doesn't matter. The fact is that they told you incorrect information. Most breeders try to send fresh eggs, the fresher the better. Over a week old and the hatch rate drops. Over two weeks old, it plummets. Over three weeks, it'd be almost a miracle for one to hatch.

I hatch eggs my self that are older than they should be, but would never send them to a customer. As far as prices go, after you agree on a price, then thats the price, if you lose money on that shipment then change the prices next time. Do not ever raise the price after youve quoted someone a price. Thats just wrong. But that just my 2 cents.

Brian is great to do business with. Yes it was a shocker. lol I just never heard of a "restocking charge" on hatching eggs that hadnt been laid or HAD. And how the heck do you "restock" eggs? "Matilda, open WIDE!"

I agree. It's like on eBay, you get a negative feedback and you are pretty much done. That makes folks be extra careful about not getting negative feedback. IMHO, BYC ought to allow you to post the name. If need be, they can put a disclaimer on their website that protects them from liable.

Nobody deserves to be taken advantage of. What was done here I find inexcusable.

I have had to contact a couple of my customers and explain events that were outside of my control. I mean, what do you do when 3 or the 5 hens you have in the pens stop laying? In one case, I refunded the money as requested. In another, I sent like 16-17 eggs for a dozen and made sure the last 12 were well under a week old. Heck, I'll even work something out to make up for a less than 50% hatch rate if I need to in order to make somebody happy.

In other words, I'll bend over backwards to make someone feel as though they were taken care of properly. Obviously this seller did not do that and IMHO they should not be allowed to use BYC to sell nor should they anonimty be allowed to remain.

God Bless,

That is just terrible that this person did this to you. All I can say is to check feedback (ebay, eggbid) and ask a lot of questions. If someone were to question me on how I ship my eggs, I would have no qualms sending pictures of a package of eggs being packed to ship. If they have problems with you asking questions before the sale, they don't want your business anyway.
