Question, does Electro PSP require direct contact?

Just adopted these two. The woman said they were picked on but I am betting on mites. I put a good helping of sulphur on the ground and in the dust bath. I put diatomaceous earth (food grade) in the nest box, they lay on the ground and not in the box. I sprayed them with Electro PSP. Does it require direct contact to kill the mites?

Mites do not have to be sprayed directly for Elector PSP to be effective. If you spray the bird around the vent area, it should kill any external parasites on the bird(s).

What are you feeding them? Seems like they could use lots of protein and some concentrated vitamins (like NutriDrench or PoultryCell).

Thank you, this is very helpful. I am feeding them Modesto Mills wheat free layer mix and a little cat food and some leafy greens.

Sure!

I did a quick search and wasn't able to find a wheat-free layer feed from Modesto (I found a soy-free, corn-free option). I saw the New Country Organics has a wheat-free option. Do you have a pic of the nutrition label?

The Modesto Layer feeds I checked out seemed to be a little lower on protein and a couple of the important amino acids (Lysine & Methionine).

I'm no feed expert, but you might try switching to a brand with higher levels of what I mentioned above (Protein, Lysine, Methionine). Most "all flock" and chick starter feeds meet these higher levels (you just need to ensure there is oyster shell on the side, free-choice, for calcium). If you need to stick with Modesto for any reason, it might be worth looking into their chick starter (the soy free, corn free option is 22% protein) instead of the layer feed (chick starter can be fed to your entire flock with free-choice oyster shell on the side).

If these were birds of mine, that's what I would do. I would also put a supplement in one waterer (along with a waterer that has plain water as well), like PoultryCell ---or--- the Rooster Booster "Vitamins, Electrolytes, and Probiotic" supplement pictured here (to help with the stress of moving/quarantine/integration as well as whatever is going on with their feather loss):

Good luck with them! I hope they start growing their feathers back soon! 🥰
