We have six Australorp chicks...supposed to be pullets......five of them have white feathers on their wingtip. The sixth one has black wingtips. Are the black wingtips an indication of a rooster ?

Thanks!
Larry

Nope. But do some of your chicks seem to be feathering out a lot faster than other? That could be an early indication of gender.

Thanks CityClucks! They all seem to be feathering at the same rate. Today they are showing small tailfeathers! I've noticed the Australorps are feathering faster than the Buff Orpingtons. Got them all the same day and figure its just the difference in the breeds. Sure like the Australorps! May go back for another half dozen since I have the room.

I'm with you - my Australorps are some of the calmest, most beautiful, best layers in my flock. As chicks they were outgoing, curious and friendly. I approve if you decide to get more!
