I filled an egg turner to the brim with 41 eggs. One hatched at 18 1/2 days, 1 at 19 1/2, and 3 at 20 days with more cracking, and another 25 eggs still quiet (21 days is tomorrow evening). Could the early hatch of some eggs been caused by uneven heat in the incubator? If using a turner, should the eggs be moved around occssionally to incubate them more evenly?

you know what, it could be... at first when i incubated, halfway thru the 18 days, i take the top rack and bottom rack out and switch them... usually the top rack hatches first for me... it's closer to the heating element... but i added a more powerful fan, and now it's all gravy... just keep playing with it... if moving them works for you, do it... remember, the turner motor makes some heat too... a lot of heat really... maybe that's what's causing the heat layering...

Your temp may have been slightly high during incubation. It's not uncommon for some to hatch at day 19...
