Question for hunters: complaint about neighbor's target practice

My ex SIL lived next to a man who used to come up for hunting season. They would party all night drinking and running around on their four wheelers (this is illegal in the wildlife area) . ONe weekend they were target practicing towards his house. with my grandchildren playing in their own yard. When SIL went to talk to them they denyed it. Later that week after they had left their deer stands were turned away and knocked over. From that point on they kept them away from his yard. We also informed the game warden about them he watches for them when they come up. Hes just waiting until he can nab him in the act. Some times you have to protect your own. I don't like to cause trouble for anyone but I'd rather do that then visit my grandchildren in hospital becasue some drunk hunter accidently shot them.

here this may help, this is pa law right from the book i had to look-

Safety Zones: It is unlawful to hunt for, shoot at, trap, take, chase or
disturb wildlife within 150 yards of any occupied residence, camp, industrial
or commercial building, farm house or farm building, or school or
playground without the permission of the occupants. It is unlawful to shoot
into a safety zone, even if you are outside of the zone. Driving game, even
without a firearm or bow, within a safety zone without permission is unlawful.
For comparison, think of a safety zone as about one and a half
football fields. Hunting on hospital and institutional grounds, and in cemeteries,
is also prohibited. It is unlawful to discharge a firearm within 150
yards of a Game Commission vehicle whose occupants are releasing pheasants.
The safety zone for archery hunters statewide is 50 yards. This also
applies to crossbows during any season where they can be used. Archery
hunters carrying muzzleloaders during any muzzleloader season must abide
by the 150-yard safety zone regulation. Around playgrounds, schools, nursery
schools or day-care centers, the safety zone remains 150 yards.

they cannot shoot within the saftey zone

Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2), the area within 150 yards around and that area which is below the highest point of any occupied dwelling house, residence, or other building or camp occupied by human beings, or any barn, stable, or other building used in connection therewith or any attached or detached playground of any school, nursery school or day-care center.

this sounds like you cannot target shoot in season which I was not aware

Sec. 2507. Restrictions on shooting.

(a) General rule. - It is unlawful for any person during the open season for the taking of any big game other than turkey to:

(1) Shoot at any mark or target other than legal game or wildlife with a firearm of any kind or a bow and arrow.

(2) Discharge at any time any firearm or release an arrow at random in the general direction of any game or wildlife not plainly visible for the purpose of routing or frightening them.

Call the game commission and ask if theres anything that can be done, if their ammunition are landing on your property there should be something you can do

By the way, my family has always been hunters so I personally dont have anything against it but everyone should be respectful and responsible

oops...i was gathering info while someone was posting said info..........

Licenses Required: It is unlawful to hunt or trap wildlife without
first obtaining required hunting or furtaker licenses. While afield, in
addition to their license, sportsmen are required to have in their possession
additional cards or papers that must be shown to an officer or
landowner upon request to confirm identification.

now this here means- if u catch them hunting any game on their own property without a liceance u got them. they r required to display it at all times if they do not they r pouching and u can turn them in and get paid for it if they illegally kill big game(dear, bear ect). it's $100 for a conviction they will give u.

i don't know if they r doing that but i saw u said about corn fields and it reminded me of it. there is only certain birds legal to kill also. some of those birds r migratory birds regulated by usfws. they must have a stamp for it and ducks require a duck stamp. also today is the first day of small game for squirel and grouse. it is archery season for deer and early muzzle loader for antlerless dear. keep an eye our for other illegal activity and if they r slob hunting turn them into the game comission please i don't want bad hunters out there either.
hope that helps too,
silkie

This is from MY town:
Teen shooting gun at woodpile hits woman
Weymouth, Mass. -- A 19-year-old man who was shooting a rifle at a woodpile in his backyard shot missed and struck a woman.

John Murphy III was shooting his .22 caliber rifle outside his home at 105 Gilbert Road at about 6 p.m. on Thursday when he struck Debra O'Neil, 50, in her right arm.

Police said that she was outside walking her dog at the time of the shooting.

She was taken to South Shore Hospital, where she underwent surgery for a shattered forearm.

Murphy was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Friday.

He's also an Eagle Scout and they have firearm, knife and axe safety things...ijit...

We had some crazy people renting a house across the rail road tracks from us. They shot all the time and I wouldn' t allow the kids out for fear that they would miss the target. Well they did miss and it hit my husbands shop. It went through the wall and hit the upstairs doorjam kittycorner from where the bullet entered. The hole was quite big, I could put my finger in it!

The cops came out, he went over to talk to them, but never heard anything more. They continued to shoot last year. I haven't heard anything this fall so hopefully they moved!

ur still allowed to target shoot, what u r refering to is in the field only. target practice can be anytime of the year but not in the woods in the field.

i wasnt sure but last year when my son called they told him it still had to be out the saftey zone away from buildings. Sounds like these people are too close.

i have a question, is ur property located within the safety zone?

if u have just no treasepassing signs up, i'd put up the yellow ones to and safety zone ones. the yellow say no hunting, no trapping ect. signs r to be for yellow ones 10 ft apart, signed, dated ur name and addy and phone # on them to be legal.

there is nothing wrong with hunting if done responsible, respectfully, legaly and right. my husband and i both r hunters and trappers and so is 3 of our 5 kid's. the crazy people drinking and then going out in the woods drunk, shooting at stupid stuff to ricoce bullets, pouching, trigger happy ect is what i have the prob with.

yes u r correct the safety zone they must follow it in field or out. but.... there is one loop hole there. MUST HAVE PERMISSION from land owner. they do not need it on their own land so the neighber has that. however he does not have the permission of the OP for her land so i think that makes her in the safety zone automatically(reguardless of stuctures and such within so many yards/feet) if so YES they r breaking law by fireing into or through a safety zone which would be her property or other neighber who also didn't give permission.

if it was me and i wasn't a hunter, lol and it was my land i'd put the other signs up and then go talk to them calmly. inform them i didn't want bullets flying on or through my property it was a safety zone and it is the only warning i'm giveing if it comes to it i would get the law involved and prosecute and they will be liable for any and all problems, damages ect. once they have been told to stay off property and told it's a safety zone the game comission or police should be able to step in to inforce it.
