Question for the BIG girls

Ok... my 2 cents. :D
My brahmas are heavy... and although there are lower perches available, they roost on the top perch. My roosts are a ladder type roost, with the top roost being about 6 and a half foot from the floor. They start at the bottom... and one by one make their assent to the top. In the morning, one by one, they come down;) I think if you provide a way that they can comfortably go up and down... they will roost where you want. The youngins fly on and off the roost.... the big girls take their time.

I have Brahmas and a handful of other smaller breeds and a big white turkey. I use a combo of 2×4s and an old simple entertainment center as the bridge for them to roost on. Just make sure the roost isn't too high. I've found that the bigger breeds, if they go too high up, can get leg problems from jumping down off too high of a perch. One of my roosters got injured doing that and has a permanent shake in that leg when he stands still.if they don't like it just look for large sturdy tree branches that are wide enough to put some good 3-4" screws through. I use those for my turkey coop, which used to be the Brahma coop.
