In the Brooder

We brought home 6 baby chicks on Tuesday - about 2 weeks old. They are starting to get their feathers and one of the Rhode Island Reds is pretty sure she can fly. When I take the "top" off the brooder (aka deep rubber maid tub with garden fencing on top), she immediately tries to make an escape. A couple others are starting this too so I don't think this brooder is going to last much longer...then what?

I didn't think they could go outside for a couple more weeks. I'm in Phoenix so we are triple digits in the day and lows in the 80s. The coop is ready so I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for your help!

I think they can go outside. Just make sure they have shade and plenty fresh water during the day. Just bring them at night for another week or 2, until they have more feathers.

I think I may just do that! They seem to want to roost already too. A couple of them love to just sit in a hand in the brooder too - I figured they liked getting higher. Those RIRs have a lot of personality! LOL
