QUESTION - how do you find battery hens for adoption?

Around here there is a weekly chicken auction and many of the egg factories send their hens there so they can get a dollar or so off of them. Some people buy them to stew them and others buy them as layers. I just got 8 of them myself. They look awful right now but will look and feel tons better here soon. Here is the best looking one of the 8 I got.

I see many battery hens that look similar - even in the UK. Are these production reds?

(I am looking in No. VA. Maryland is close by, with Mr. Perdue.)
