Question of the Day - Monday, June 3rd, 2024

Today's question is from @ShrekDawg:

Yes. English, though I can ride western too.
I think I posted about it once before, but I used to be in a special needs horse riding club. I left because I realized I was never going to learn anything, my favorite horse retired from the program, and I longed to be free to ride the horses, and not have 3 volunteers treating me like some ice sculpture that would break at the slightest inconvenience. They were trying to be inclusive, but the way they spoke, like they were talking to a preschool kid (I was 11, but still), the way the games were rigged, so easy a blind man could win (which, in hindsight, might have been the point), it just seemed like they were underestimating me. They tried to be all inclusive, but just seemed kinda ableist.

I hear ya, but having three people is part of the rules I think, it's for your safety. Do you have anywhere else to ride?

I don't really ride anymore, I respect the 20% rule and that means I need a really big horse. There just aren't a lot of perches, Belgians, etc around here to ride.
I had to look it up, lol:
https://www.countryandstable.com/bl...ur-horse-carry-horse-rider-weight-calculator/
"As a general rule a horse on average is able to carry a rider which is the same as or approximately 20% of the horse's weight."

I think I was about 140 and the pony was ~700 pounds.
