Question of the Day - Monday, June 3rd, 2024

I had to look it up, lol:
https://www.countryandstable.com/bl...ur-horse-carry-horse-rider-weight-calculator/
"As a general rule a horse on average is able to carry a rider which is the same as or approximately 20% of the horse's weight."

I think I was about 140 and the pony was ~700 pounds.

For me that's a 1200 pound horse. Most people here have OTTB, Quarters, Pintos, and prima donnas Arabians. TB's and quarters Can run that big, but almost all of them are smaller and super flighty because they're barrel trained. I'm just not that good a rider for a really fresh horse. I want a nice mellow sofa. :)

Didn't we have a similar question? I'm not a horse person. The few times I've ridden, I was given the "easy" horse i.e the largest, fattest horse available. I'm 5'2, my legs stick out straight like Yosemite Sam.
"Grip with you knees so you don't bounce!"
If I could feel my knees, I surely would use them.
