Hot Wheels or Matchbox?

I've smacked my son with them when he's needed it. Usually it was when he didn't want to clean them up

Matchbox for me, all day. I collect both Hot Wheels and Matchbox, but by far, Matchbox is better and they release more models of the type of cars that I like than Hot Wheels. Plus, most of their cars are more realistic looking, even on their brand-created models.

One of my Matchbox cars, a 1978 Subaru Brat:

What’s the difference?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know the difference.
Matchbox cars are more realistic looking with simple paint jobs that are similar to the real-life car. Though they do put some occasional decals on their cars, they're always done in a realistic appearing way. Most of their cars are made in Thailand with the older ones being created in England. Of the two brands, Matchbox has been around the longest, first being created over 70 years ago.

Hot Wheels have less of a realistic look to them, even on their real-life models. Most of their cars have a speed-driven appearance and fancy to even outrageous paint jobs. They do run series like the Fast and Furious cars, but most of their cars have a hint of unrealisim, even if it's just the oversized wheels and colorful design. These cars have been made in China, Thailand (Premiums, special editions, etc), and Malaysia and have only been around for a little over 50 years. The original creator of Hot Wheels was the husband to the original creator of Barbie, thus being the perfect couple to make toys for both boys and girls.

Hopefully this clears up the difference of the two brands. If not, just look for the orange package for Matchbox and the blue for Hot Wheels. Also, because most of the Matchbox cars are made in Thailand, you can look for the little elephant under their chassis. On Hot Wheels, if the fancy paint job and speedy look doesn't tell you, a chrome chassis on some might. ;)
