Question of the Day - Saturday, May 31st, 2025

When I read the question, first that popped my mind was a female duck, who could live with the chickens for a week and swim in the creek behind our garden. But she might swim or fly away to search other ducks within a week.

After reading a few contributions an Archaeopteryx came to my mind. Soo cool. But highly unpractical.

After @fluffycrow saying something about keeping offspring.. I know for sure.

I want a bantam rooster who is silent or has a soft voice, collect the eggs, lay a lot of fake eggs in a nestbox and give the gathered eggs to the first hen, who is triggered to become broody. Hoping one of the chicks will become a silent / soft sounding rooster too. 💕

I would like to keep for a week an animal that hunts and eats domestic cats.

Now before any cat lovers judge me as monstrous, please let me explain why...

More than one neighbourhood cat uses our garden as a toilet and it is a big problem for us, because it causes our dog, who eats eeeerg things, to get upset stomachs, sometimes leading us to costly vet bills. We have tried many deterrents, including spiked wall-top mountings, placing thorn branches on the ground, and lengths of expensive netting which we also have to place over all our open vegetable beds whenever we plant new harvests, due to cat issues, causing our garden to look unsightly. We also have to empty out our bird bath every evening so that cats don't use it as a water bowl during the night causing our dog, who sleeps indoors, to bark loudly at ungodly hours. Cats also walk all over our vehicles leaving distracting paw marks on drivers window at least once a week. Cats have destroyed two Wagtail nests in our garden, one with a Wagtail and eggs in it; and captured and killed fledgling Cape Sparrows from nests in our trees.

There is one cat that lives in the house behind us, three cats living next door to our left, two cats living in the house across the road, and one really good hunting (fat) cat living three doors down; and these are only the cats I know of for sure.

There is always something being caught and killed by these cats on a daily basis and I would like to see the tables being turn on them... just for a week.

It's the fault of the cats owners.

Understand and we have an indoor Maine Coon cat. We have had outdoor cats that remained on our property. As people close by, allowed their cats to constantly reproduce, one neighbor spoke to them about the problem, they didn't care.
Even though we have 20 acres and are 7-800' from the road, stray cats would come. Trap and return to the mass breeding family.
