Question of the Day - Saturday, November 9th, 2024

No, but I have an 8 week old chick I am wary of. I move them from their cage to the floor of the spare bedroom for exercise or to a dog crate for outside time as often as possible. All 6 of my other chicks let me pick them up but she screams, thrashes and sliced a deep cut on my palm a couple of days ago. I now wear gloves to handle her. (As a brand new chicken owner, I did the thing where I got them first and built the run and coop later. I don't even regret it because I've wanted them forever.) Never been afraid of a dog, horse or cat. Maybe someone else's barn goat that trapped us in a feed room in a fury.

Yes. I had a Muscovy drake named Elvis that I was scared of. He'd come around with his 'mohawk' up with the weird sound he'd make, and he was coming to attack. He tore up more pants of mine and would often latch on to them until they tore. In the end, the drake became my hero for saving me from some stranger that approached me one morning, though I still rehomed him later on.
Then my last rooster, Tribute, I was developing a fear of him for the many sneak attacks he's done. I've rehomed him to someone down the road, and I occasionally ask them if he's made his way into the pot yet. (They haven't sent me a bowl of chicken soup yet, so I guess not, lol.)

No. But all the animals I had were bantam chickens 🐓 , rabbits 🐇 and tropical fish 🐟 .
Animals I was afraid of at home, have been a bouvier dog and a boar.

Today's question is from @Lacy Duckwing:

I've had a few that I've had to be careful around, but I've never been afraid of one.
1: a rooster. I re homed him eventually.
2: a dog. A huge golden retriever that I was never scared of as a kid, but in hindsight he had a bit of a temper, and probably would have bitten my nose off if he had been younger and untrained, or if five year old me had been allowed within 3 feet of him.
3: a grey cat. He had a bad leg, and was known for scratching if you accidentally bumped into it. But otherwise a sweet boy.
4: a domesticated rat. Not too scary, but she bit me once and it kind of ruined rats for me.
5: a black cat. I actually still have this guy. His name is Midi (short for Midnight), and he loves people. I used to be afraid of him, because he will roll over for belly rubs, then shred your hand with his claws. But I’ve learned that he just wants to play, and when he rolls over, it’s time to bring out the pom pom on a string.
