Not sure. Each option comes with a big list of downsides, but I guess in an ideal situation, a housecat

A soaring bird of some sort - I'd say a turkey buzzard, but the thought
of their diet is off putting.

I think raven. Soars like a hawk, omnivorous, they are so big few other animals want to mess with them, super smart, amazing voice. Yeah.
